Nuit de l'Info under the sign of the ocean
Every year, Nuit de l'Info brings together thousands of students to take up a digital challenge in a single night. The 2024 edition, supported by the Race for Water foundation, raised awareness of a major environmental issue while stimulating participants' creativity and innovation.
An international challenge
The 2024 edition, supported by the Race for Water foundation, mobilized over 6,000 students in 756 groups. La Nuit de l’Info, organized on a national scale, mobilized students from various establishments such as IUTs, universities and grandes écoles. But the 2024 edition was also distinguished by its international scope, with the participation of students from Cameroon. This geographical diversity created a unique dialogue around environmental issues, enriching the solutions proposed by a plurality of perspectives.
The ocean: mirror of the human body
This year’s topic, entitled “What if the ocean were a human body?”, was unveiled simultaneously to all participants via a video presentation. The theme invited students to explore the fascinating similarities between these two vital systems. Sea currents, compared with the circulatory system, or the photosynthesis of marine micro-organisms, paralleling human lung functions, provided the basis for captivating reflections.
The teams were tasked with developing an educational and interactive web application illustrating these connections. This application was to provide a better understanding of why the health of the ocean is crucial for the planet and for mankind.
A connected, immersive night
Throughout the night, the excitement was palpable, not only in the students’ workrooms, but also online. Several teams shared their progress and creations on social networks, while others streamed their sessions live on Twitch. Jeanne, communications manager for the Race for Water foundation, was on hand all night to accompany participants and monitor their progress. These initiatives highlighted the breadth and creativity of the ideas put forward, while reinforcing the sense of community around this collective challenge.
A shared mission for future generations
The Nuit de l’Info 2024 is part of Race for Water’s commitment to raising awareness of ocean and climate issues among the younger generation. As the foundation prepares its next Odyssey aboard the MODX 70, a zero-emission catamaran, this challenge offered a magnificent opportunity to share our vision of a future where the oceans will be better protected thanks to concrete innovations.
Thanks to all participants and organizers!
Our warmest thanks go to all the students, teachers and organizers who helped make the night a success. Thanks to their creativity and involvement, new and promising ideas emerged to raise awareness of ocean preservation. Our sincere thanks also go to the Nuit de l’Info office, in particular Rémi Synave and Carole Blanc, for their dedication and impeccable organization, which made this event possible.
What next?
The projects created during the night will now be studied by a panel of judges, who will select the winning group. This work will enable us to highlight the most pertinent ideas and continue to raise awareness of the importance of protecting our oceans. We can’t wait to see which team stands out for its creativity and commitment.
Nuit de l’Info 2024 not only highlighted crucial ocean issues, but also proved that, collectively, we can imagine solutions for a more sustainable future. With participants from a wide range of backgrounds, this edition once again illustrated that collaboration is essential to meeting tomorrow’s environmental challenges.
