Vision / mission
Preserve water, the most precious resource on earth
The Race for Water Foundation is a charity dedicated to the preservation of water and the ocean in particular. This indispensable resource is under massive threat from plastic pollution and must be protected. Water will definitely be the 21st century's defining global challenge.
Stop the exponential trend of wild plastic waste reaching waterways by developing new social and economic models that gives end-of-life plastics a value.
- ENVIRONMENTAL : Reduce the amount of plastic litter reaching the ocean and protect species’ life
- VALUE CREATION : Identify, promote and help implement solutions that give end-of-life plastics a value through new business streams
- SOCIAL : Create new sources of income for the local underprivileged communities affected by plastic pollution
Since its creation in 2010 and in order to maximize the impact of its actions, Race for Water developed the LEARN – SHARE – ACT program:
LEARN : Contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge on plastic pollution in water
SHARE : Alert decision-makers, raise awareness among the general public and educate younger generations
ACT : Promote and implement sustainable solutions with significant environmental and social impacts
Our expeditions : the Odysseys
Our expeditions allow us to deploy our programs on a large scale.
Race for Water Odyssey 2017-2021 : the Odyssey of hope to promote concrete technical solutions for the preservation of the oceans.
In April 2017, Race for Water embarked on a second oceanic tour with its project, the Odyssey of Hope. On board a very special boat, an integrated mixed solar-hydrogen-kite-powered vessel, the Foundation team wants to demonstrate that energy transition is happening now, and that solutions do exist to protect our oceans from anthropogenic pollution.
Follow our crew throughout this new expedition on the Odyssey blog.
Race for Water Odyssey 2015 : an expedition to understand and raise awareness about plastic pollution in the oceans.
In a record time of under 300 days, thanks to a racing trimaran, the "MOD70 Race for Water", this unique environmental expedition allowed teams to collect the necessary scientific and sociological data required for a thorough understanding of the social and environmental impacts of plastic pollution in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. The conclusions were clear: plastic pollution is everywhere.
